Covid-19 - How Digital Health can help
Should I go to the doctor or hospital? -Telehealth Triage - Before going to the doctor or hospital, a video visit with a health professional can help determine who should go to a clinic or hospital versus heal more safely from home. Telehealth professionals can provide personalized assessment and guidance based on individual situations without spreading infection to others. See article in Time Magazine - https://time.com/5793535/coronavirus-telemedicine-telehealth/ - Note new legislation in congress impacts telehealth during public health emergencies - Navigation help - As physician/nurse triage systems may get busy helping people determine the right place to go,text message triage are emerging to contribute. For example, newer AI systems such as ADA https://ada.com/ are used at places like Sutter Health in California, one can receive a message from a chatbots to help triage nurses and others with routine protocols. - Health Professional Resource allocation - Moving more visits to telehealth can distribute finite healthcare professional resources from across geographies to where most needed - without risking health of professionals. They can free up time/augment professionals providing care that can only be given on site. - EHR forms/adaption - Update patient portals to create forms to request telehealth visit and complete triage forms. Streamline online test ordering, label printing, and results reporting with communications to individual and professionals. - Go.data and others to track ancestry and those infected and needing to be isolated. See Go.Data video from WHO on the left. Free in App store - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/go-data/id1428508439 Apps/messaging - Using health tech apps can help to coordinate care and electronically manage key health information such as significant results and progress. - Expedite research into practice - Scientists are collaborating globally to develop better testing, vaccines, and new treatments. Stay informed and consider how to best share solutions as they evolve. It is a global issue and it will take a global community to solve this and reduce suffering. Research provides some hope.
